Introducing...Miles David

Our sweet baby boy Miles made his arrival on March 23rd at 4:02 am. I went in the day before at 8 am to be induced and it was yet again another long labor. Everything went fine for the most part, except for the fact that apparently epidurals only numb parts of my body, allowing me to feel the contractions no matter what. I wasn't prepared for that at all. Also, for the last 5 hours of labor, with each contraction, his heart rate dropped since the cord was wrapped around his neck, hence his very purple face in the first picture which was taken seconds after his birth.

Our first picture as parents of two...we were tired. That's my excuse for our looks.
9 pounds. Didn't expect that either.

Georgia meeting Miles for the first time. Giving him a kiss.
She really is a good sister...so far.
First family picture. Georgia was told to kiss the baby, and I guess she thought we meant the doll.
Since Nick and I have incompatible blood types, if the baby is born with his blood type, which both have been so far, they are prone to get jaundice. Georgia had it, but Miles' was more severe. He started his phototherapy within about 8 hours of life.

After just a few hours of his phototherapy in our room, they admitted him to the NICU for his high levels. It was very sad, but you can ask anyone-I didn't even cry. Don't ask me how that is even possible since I'm a really emotional person to begin with and I'd just delivered a baby, but I was definitely given strength from elsewhere.
He had a total of 4 lights on him and had to wear these sweet goggles the whole time. He acted as if he were on the beach in Maui. He was a dream patient for the nurses and rarely cried at all the whole week he was there. He slept for 3 hours, ate and went back to sleep.
It was tough to balance visiting the hospital with Nick trying to keep up with school and work, trying to be a parent to Georgia, and recover at the same time, but we managed. I hated not bringing him home with me. And the worse part was when I left, they couldn't tell me when he'd come home either. It was a day by day thing with hopes he was improving enough to come home the next day.
This was his first night at home. Georgia is thrilled she has someone to push in a swing!

She loves holding him...and making him hold her hand as the next two pictures show.

I don't think he's as thrilled.
He is SUCH a good baby, and I love him to pieces. Georgia is doing well adjusting to having a sibling and Nick and I are happy to have our family at home all together. We were lucky to have so many visitors helping out for the past two weeks and miss having the help. Georgia loves her grandparents and was lucky to have their attention 24/7. Welcome to our family, Miles!

  2. He's so sweet, Lins. I'm glad we live close enough that I SHOULD be able to visit...if only I could get our health to cooperate. :)
